You’re in the Wright Place!

Walser House

The Walser House, located in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood, is a significant early work by Frank Lloyd Wright, built in 1903. This Prairie-style residence is one of only a handful of single family homes remaining in the area.

The house was a pivotal experiment by Wright in designing affordable yet architecturally rich structures for narrow suburban lots. It features a horizontal emphasis, deep overhanging eaves, and an open interior plan with built-in furniture, hallmarks of his developing Prairie Style.

The Walser House: A Prairie Landmark at a Crossroads

Sadly, the Walser House is currently facing a precarious future. After years of deferred maintenance and the passing of its long-time owner, the property has fallen into disrepair. It is presently in foreclosure proceedings, with its condition rapidly declining due to vacancy and environmental exposure.

Preservation groups are actively working to find a new steward who can undertake the extensive restoration needed to save this important piece of American architectural history from further decay and potential loss.

FLW Enthusiast & Webmaster

Architecture and home design have always fascinated me. As a young girl I enjoyed drawing floor plans, rearranging my parent’s furniture and playing with Lincoln Logs and Legos.  My passion has always been the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Since I have been old enough to drive a car, I have visited Frank Lloyd Wright homes in the Chicagoland area and attended the Wright Plus house walks. Now, as co-owners of Northern Sky Designs, my husband & I are able to combine our website design skills and FLW travels to bring you this website! Enjoy!
