It’s hard to believe that anyone exists who has not heard of the Guggenheim Museum in New York City, New York, or that it has been featured in a few movies. A few? Well, let’s try a statement from guggenheim.org/blogs: “Members of the film and television community have chosen to feature the building in more than 25 productions over the years.” To name just a few, there is Cactus Flower, with Ingrid Bergman, Walter Matthau, and Goldie Hawn, Three Days of the Condor, starring Robert Redford, and Men in Black, with Will Smith. (See movie list with links below.) We have seen myriad actors on the spiraling ramps, and even a rare shot of the rooftop (also in Men in Black). There have been action movies, love stories, romantic comedies and more.
Quite possibly one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s most controversial structures, it has been touted as “The Spiral that Broke All the Rules.” It is as contemporary as some of the art it holds. In 2019, UNESCO announced the addition of the Guggenheim Museum, along with 7 other Wright works, to it’s list of the world’s most significant cultural and natural sites. It is definitely a must see destination, whether you’re a Frank Lloyd Wright fan, a movie buff, and/or one who appreciates art!
