Richard Lloyd Jones was a prominent journalist and publisher in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was the founder and publisher of the Tulsa Tribune, and he was also a successful businessman and investor. In 1929, Jones commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright to design a house for him and his wife, Georgia. The house, which was named Westhope, was built using textile concrete blocks and is located on South Birmingham Avenue in Tulsa.

The interior of the house is spacious and airy, and it features large windows that let in plenty of natural light.

Westhope was a controversial house when it was first built. Some people criticized its design, but Jones was proud of his home. He said that Westhope was “a work of art” and that it was “a symbol of Tulsa’s future.”

Westhope is now a National Historic Landmark. It is privately owned and not available for tours.

Here are some additional facts about Richard Lloyd Jones:

  • Jones was born in 1873 in Janesville, Wisconsin.

  • He was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1952

About Me

Yvonne Carpenter-Ross

FLW Enthusiast & Webmaster

Architecture and home design have always fascinated me. As a young girl I enjoyed drawing floor plans, rearranging my parent’s furniture and playing with Lincoln Logs and Legos.  My passion has always been the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Since I have been old enough to drive a car, I have visited Frank Lloyd Wright homes in the Chicagoland area and attended the Wright Plus house walks. Now, as co-owners of Northern Sky Designs, my husband & I are able to combine our website design skills and FLW travels to bring you this website! Enjoy!
