Frank Lloyd Wright designed four cottages in Whitehall, Michigan, between 1897 and 1909. The cottages are located on the shores of White Lake, and are characterized by their simple, geometric designs and their use of natural materials. The cottages are considered to be some of Wright’s earliest works, and they provide a glimpse into the development of his architectural style.

The first cottage, which was built in 1897, was designed for Thomas and Laura Gale. The cottage is a two-story structure with a hipped roof and board-and-batten siding. The interior of the cottage is simple and functional, with large windows that provide plenty of natural light.

The three other cottages were designed for Laura Gale after her husband’s death in 1907. The cottages are all located close to each other, and they share a common driveway.

Yvonne Carpenter-Ross

FLW Enthusiast & Webmaster

Architecture and home design have always fascinated me. As a young girl I enjoyed drawing floor plans, rearranging my parent’s furniture and playing with Lincoln Logs and Legos.  My passion has always been the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Since I have been old enough to drive a car, I have visited Frank Lloyd Wright homes in the Chicagoland area and attended the Wright Plus house walks. Now, as co-owners of Northern Sky Designs, my husband & I are able to combine our website design skills and FLW travels to bring you this website! Enjoy!
