Don Erickson

Don Erickson was a prolific and influential architect who worked in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs for over 50 years. He was a disciple of Frank Lloyd Wright, and his work reflected Wright’s emphasis on organic design, natural materials, and harmony with nature.

Erickson designed a wide range of buildings, including private homes, apartments, commercial buildings, and resorts. His most notable project is the Indian Lakes Resort in Bloomingdale, Illinois, which is known for its unique pyramid-shaped design and its use of hexagonal rooms.

His own home in Barrington, Illinois, which is topped by a series of pagoda-like roofs and has a swimming pool in the same large, open room as the kitchen.

Erickson’s work is known for its bold use of color, texture, and form. He was also a master of using natural light to create dramatic and inviting spaces. His buildings are both functional and aesthetically pleasing, and they continue to inspire architects and homeowners today.

In addition to his architectural work, Erickson was also a passionate advocate for education and design. He taught at Northern Illinois University and co-founded the Association of Licensed Architects. He was also a strong supporter of the Chicago Bauhaus and Beyond organization, which promotes the appreciation and preservation of modern architecture in Chicago.

Erickson died in 2006, but his legacy continues to live on in his buildings and in the many people he inspired. He was a true master of his craft, and his work continues to be admired by architects and homeowners alike.

About Me

Yvonne Carpenter-Ross

FLW Enthusiast & Webmaster

Architecture and home design have always fascinated me. As a young girl I enjoyed drawing floor plans, rearranging my parent’s furniture and playing with Lincoln Logs and Legos.  My passion has always been the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Since I have been old enough to drive a car, I have visited Frank Lloyd Wright homes in the Chicagoland area and attended the Wright Plus house walks. Now, as co-owners of Northern Sky Designs, my husband & I are able to combine our website design skills and FLW travels to bring you this website! Enjoy!
