Anderton Court Shops

The Anderton Court Shops, now home to the Givenchy West Coast flagship, represent Frank Lloyd Wright’s only contribution to the glitz of Beverly Hills. Completed in 1952, this three-story complex is a striking departure from the traditional storefronts of Rodeo Drive. It serves as a vertical expression of Wright’s organic architecture, utilizing a “V-shaped” ramp system that invites pedestrians to ascend through the space rather than merely walking past it.

The building has remained remarkably intact as a retail landmark over the decades. In 2024, the luxury fashion house Givenchy took over the entirety of the Anderton Court Shops, transforming the site into its premier West Coast flagship store. The brand worked to maintain the architectural integrity of Wright’s vision while modernizing the interior to create a high-fashion shopping experience that harmonizes with the building’s historic white concrete and geometric forms.

Designed with a hexagonal floor plan, the structure is centered around a dramatic open light well. The most recognizable feature is the inverted-V ramp system that leads shoppers to the upper levels, a design choice intended to eliminate the need for a traditional elevator or stairs. The building is topped with a distinct, perforated white spire that adds a futuristic, sculptural element to the Beverly Hills skyline.

The materials used—white concrete, glass, and terrazzo floors—emphasize Wright’s focus on simplicity and light. Large windows allow natural light to flood the interior, while the shops themselves are arranged around the central courtyard, providing constant visual connection to the building’s unique geometry and the bustling street below.
