Anderton Court Shops (1952)

anderton exterior

The Anderton Court Shops is a small, three-story group of shops on fashionable Rodeo Drive in the downtown section of Beverly Hills, California. It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and completed in 1952. The building is a unique example of Wright’s Usonian architecture, which emphasizes simplicity, functionality, and harmony with nature.

The building is U-shaped with a central courtyard. The exterior is made of white concrete and has a hexagonal floor plan. The roof is flat and is topped with a white spire. The building’s entrance is located on the north side and is flanked by two large, angled ramps. The ramps lead up to the second floor of the building, which is where the shops are located.

The interior of the Anderton Court Shops is just as unique as the exterior. The walls are made of white concrete and the floors are made of terrazzo. The ceilings are high and there are large windows that let in plenty of natural light. The shops are located on the second floor and are arranged around the central courtyard.
