Monona
Terrace was first designed by Wright in 1938 as a cultural, governmental and
recreational building. Unfortunately, he didn't live to see his design for
Madison's lakefront become a reality.
Madison residents approved referenda in 1992 to construct
Monona Terrace. While Wright's design was used for the building's exterior,
the interior was redesigned by Tony Puttnam, Wright apprentice and Taliesin
architect. The Terrace opened to the public in 1997, nearly 60 years
after Wright's design was completed.
