Frank Lloyd Wright had a long and successful career in California, designing over 100 structures in the state. His work ranged from private residences to commercial buildings to churches.

Wright’s first commission in California was the George C. Stewart House in Montecito, which was built in 1909. This was followed by the V.C. Morris Gift Shop in San Francisco in 1912, and the Hanna House in Palo Alto in 1917.

Certainly, one of his most famous work in California is Hollyhock House, which was built in Los Angeles in 1917. This Mayan Revival-inspired home is a National Historic Landmark and is open to the public for tours.

About Me

Yvonne Carpenter-Ross

FLW Enthusiast & Webmaster

Architecture and home design have always fascinated me. As a young girl I enjoyed drawing floor plans, rearranging my parent’s furniture and playing with Lincoln Logs and Legos.  My passion has always been the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Since I have been old enough to drive a car, I have visited Frank Lloyd Wright homes in the Chicagoland area and attended the Wright Plus house walks. Now, as co-owners of Northern Sky Designs, my husband & I are able to combine our website design skills and FLW travels to bring you this website! Enjoy!
